Ah yes you are correct indeed...what a shambles! but in all honesty, the dole is very helpful when used properly. When I was unemployed it kept me going, but as soon as I got the offer for a job I jumped on it...i'm not one to stick around on it, makes me feel tacky.

Without things like the dole the country would be worse off, it would feck alot of things.

As you said, it's good for helping those who've needed it at times. It's just the people who live on it and don't want to work is where the problems are.

I wouldn't say the country would be worse off. It would encourage a working culture with lower unemployment rates.

It would also force people who are too picky about what job they do to reconsider since foreign nationals could easily take these positions and leave them with nothing.

Leaving millions without money wouldn't amount to a good situation.

Now that it's here, taking away just wouldn't work.

I guess people would want to work harder to find work when they are starving.

The only people who should be receiving benefits are those who are too sick to work and have been tested every year to prove this.

Removing benefits or decreasing the amount people receive would help to cleanse society of the scroungers who grow up with the attitude that it's ok not to work. Those people sicken me.

Lot of women out there have loads of children just to receive a nice council house and lots of benefits. These are the type of people society doesn't need. They should get fined rather than rewarded.

Have their benefits cut rather than increased. Also make them pay some hospital bills rather than the NHS cover everything. Again this would come out of the money they receive on benefits.

and im with ian as much nut as it sucks better to have a society that helps each other and doesnt like let you go bankrupt trying to keep yourself alive when you get sick, but as most things hard swings one way or the other isnt the answer but rather deal with the abusers and keep helping those that can't help themselves

like new thing that came in if a womans children are all over 4 (in school) she is expected to find some kind of employment and to prove she is looking and gets put on jobseekers

Mark I don't think it could really work that way if I'm honest...I agree with what you're saying, but it's not fair on the kids to do that to the mother. Regardless of what she's doing, whos right is it to say that they should have a degraded quality of life because of their mothers actions?

At the end of the day the country needs the dole to keep the economy somewhat on its feet. However I feel that the system is open to fraud and abuse, which is why people can sit on their arses and not work but still get by. I feel that they should be forced to work if they get offered a job, which they're not. If they get over this small hurdle then the idea of it is fine.
